The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to enhance its operational capability through a strategic partnership with the International Test Pilots School (ITPS), Ontario, Canada, as part of ongoing reforms aimed at modernising pilot training and strengthening air combat readiness.

The development was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Executive Chairman of ITPS, Giorgio Clementi, to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at Headquarters NAF in Abuja on 24 April 2026. The engagement builds on earlier high-level discussions held in Canada, where both parties explored expanded cooperation in specialised pilot training, aircraft engineering, and airworthiness standards, particularly on the M-346FA fighter platform.

Air Marshal Aneke, while receiving the delegation, described the partnership as a key component of the Air Force’s broader modernisation agenda, which prioritises the development of a highly skilled, mission-ready, and technologically advanced force. He noted that advanced fighter pilot training, improved engineering capacity, and strengthened airworthiness protocols remain central to sustaining operational effectiveness in a rapidly evolving security environment.

He further stressed that structured training programmes, instructor development initiatives, and the integration of advanced simulation technologies would significantly enhance safety, efficiency, and overall mission readiness across NAF operations.

According to him, the adoption of the M-346FA platform training framework is expected to bridge critical capability gaps while ensuring that Nigerian pilots are adequately exposed to modern multi-role fighter operations and contemporary air combat standards.

In his presentation, Mr Clementi outlined ITPS’s global expertise in test pilot training, flight testing, and aviation consultancy, noting that the institution is fully prepared to deliver tailored training solutions under a long-term cooperation arrangement with the Nigerian Air Force.

The visit also featured an interactive session involving Branch Chiefs and Directors at NAF Headquarters, where both sides reviewed operational requirements and aligned on implementation modalities for the proposed training collaboration.

The engagement concluded with a mutual commitment to translate identified areas of cooperation into practical outcomes, reinforcing the Air Force’s ongoing efforts to leverage international partnerships and global best practices in sustaining combat readiness and professional excellence.
