The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has urged Nigerian businesses to make regulatory compliance a priority, describing it as a critical investment in public health protection, consumer confidence and international market competitiveness.
Adeyeye made the call on Wednesday while delivering the keynote address at the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Breakfast Roundtable held at Providence Hotel, Lagos.
Speaking on the theme, “Strengthening Regulatory Compliance for Competitive Nigerian Businesses: Enhancing Food and Drug Safety for Local and International Markets,” the NAFDAC boss explained that compliance should not be viewed merely as a statutory requirement but as an essential business strategy for producing safe, quality and effective products.
She noted that businesses that adhere to regulatory standards are better positioned to earn consumer trust, expand their market reach and compete favourably in the international marketplace.
Adeyeye highlighted the agency’s regulatory framework, which covers product registration, licensing, facility inspections, laboratory analysis and post-market surveillance, stressing that strict adherence to these processes was necessary to guarantee the safety and quality of regulated products.
She also underscored the importance of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), effective quality management systems, product traceability, technological innovation and continuous workforce training in strengthening regulatory compliance across industries.
The NAFDAC Director-General further called for stronger partnerships among regulatory agencies, businesses, academic institutions and consumers to promote compliance, improve product standards and enhance the global acceptance of Nigerian-made goods.
She maintained that effective collaboration among stakeholders would help create a business environment where public health protection and industrial growth reinforce each other.
In recognition of her performance, commitment to public health protection and contributions to industry development, Adeyeye received an Award of Excellent Performance from NACCIMA at the event.
The recognition highlighted her contributions to strengthening regulatory oversight and promoting standards aimed at improving the quality and safety of products manufactured and marketed in Nigeria.
