The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over the sum of N387,483,488 recovered from fraudulent activities to the Jigawa State Government.
The funds were presented on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, to the Director of Treasury Operations of the state, Muhammad Haruna, during a brief ceremony held at the EFCC Kano Directorate office.
According to a statement by the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the recovery followed intelligence provided by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, which flagged alleged misappropriation of public funds involving two suspects, Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani.
Acting on the intelligence, EFCC operatives launched an investigation that led to the recovery of the funds from the suspects. Upon conclusion of the probe, both individuals were arraigned in court on charges related to misappropriation of public funds.
One of the suspects, Abdullahi Garba, was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty, while the second suspect, Ayuba Sani, is currently standing trial.
Speaking during the handover, the Acting Zonal Director of the Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Friday S. Ebelo, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring justice and recovering proceeds of crime.
He stated that the EFCC remains resolute in its mandate to investigate corruption and return stolen funds, noting that the recovery underscores the agency’s determination to ensure that resources meant for public development are not diverted for personal gain.
Receiving the bank draft on behalf of the state government, Haruna commended the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism, describing the recovery as a significant benefit to the people of Jigawa State.
He added that the effort highlights the importance of the anti-corruption agency in safeguarding public funds and promoting accountability.
