Serving and retired senior military officers on Saturday converged on Kano for the wedding ceremonies of two daughters of the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Samaila Uba.
The Wedding Fathia, held at the Alfurqan Mosque on Alu Avenue, Nasarawa GRA, attracted senior officers and dignitaries from across the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force, who gathered to celebrate with the Defence spokesman and his family.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, were represented at the ceremony.
The CDS was represented by the Director of Training, Major-General S. Nuhu, while the COAS was represented by the Commander, 3 Brigade, Brigadier-General S. A. Jimoh. The CNS was represented by the Head of the Logistics College in Kano, Commodore Abubakar Madawaki, while the Chief of the Air Staff was represented by Air Vice Marshal N. B. Folaji, Commander, Air Services Training Centre, Kaduna.
Also present at the ceremony was the former Nigerian Army spokesman, retired Brigadier-General Sani Kukasheka Usman, alongside Navy Captain L. Abdulkadir, spokesman of Nigerian Navy Holdings, as well as other serving and retired senior military officers.
The first daughter of the Defence spokesman, Sadiya Ismail Uba, was joined in marriage with Abdulhamid Magaji Bako, while his second daughter, Dr Aisha Ismail Uba, was given in marriage to Dr Ibrahim Ali Umar.
Speaking during the ceremony, Major-General Uba expressed gratitude to Allah for granting him the privilege of witnessing the marriage of his two daughters, describing the occasion as a rare blessing.
“I’m very happy to witness today, which is the occasion of Wedding Fathia for my two daughters. I give thanks to Allah for sparing my life to witness this day,” Uba said.
He expressed appreciation to his senior officers, mentors, colleagues and junior officers who travelled to Kano to share in the family’s joy, praying that Allah would continue to bless and preserve them.
Earlier, the Chief Imam of Alfurqan Mosque had joined the couples in a private session before offering prayers for the families of Major-General Uba, the late Magajin Rafin Ringim and Alhaji Bako Babura.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for senior military officers, colleagues, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the union of the two couples while sharing in the joy of the Uba family.
