The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has conducted a comprehensive security appraisal at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, and intensified patrol operations along the Kano–Maiduguri Road as part of efforts to enhance security across the state.
According to an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the security assessment formed part of the implementation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu’s, Handshake Patrol initiative aimed at strengthening inter-state security collaboration.
The statement said the engagement at the Nigeria Police Academy was a professional security appraisal designed to assess existing security structures and identify areas requiring reinforcement around one of the Nigeria Police Force’s foremost training institutions.
During the visit, CP Bakori met with the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, AIG Patrick A. Atayero, MSc (UK), MBA (USA), psc, and conducted a walk-through assessment of the Academy’s perimeter security, access control systems and rapid response arrangements.
The two senior police officers also held strategic discussions on strengthening collaboration between the Academy and the Kano State Police Command in the areas of intelligence sharing, emergency response and joint operational exercises.
CP Bakori commended the Commandant for maintaining high standards of discipline, professionalism and internal security within the institution, describing the Academy as a strategic national asset responsible for grooming future leaders of the Nigeria Police Force.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the Academy in ensuring its continued safety and operational effectiveness.
Following the security appraisal, the Commissioner of Police led a high-level operational tour of the Kano–Maiduguri Road and the Kano–Jigawa border corridor to reinforce the Handshake Patrol framework.
The initiative is a joint, intelligence-driven operational strategy designed to deny criminals freedom of movement across state boundaries, prevent the spillover of criminal activities from neighbouring states and strengthen operational synergy among adjoining Police Commands.
During the tour, CP Bakori directed the deployment of enhanced surveillance measures and improved rapid response capabilities along the strategic routes.
He said the intensified patrol operations would be sustained and periodically reviewed based on prevailing security threats to ensure the protection of lives and property, as well as the uninterrupted movement of people and goods.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which emphasises proactive, collaborative, intelligence-led and technology-driven policing.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or objects to the nearest police formation as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state.
