The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been nominated for the 2025 Responsive Humanitarian Leadership Award by Blueprint Newspapers in recognition of her leadership in coordinating humanitarian interventions and disaster response efforts across Nigeria.
The nomination was formally conveyed on Wednesday at the NEMA Headquarters in Abuja when the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Blueprint Newspapers, Zainab Suleiman-Okino, presented the nomination letter to Mrs. Umar.
Speaking during the presentation, Mrs. Suleiman-Okino said the nomination followed a comprehensive assessment conducted by the newspaper’s awards selection committee, which found the NEMA Director General deserving of the recognition due to her contributions to humanitarian service delivery and emergency response management in the country.
She noted that the award seeks to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges, particularly during periods of crisis and vulnerability.
Mrs. Suleiman-Okino also formally invited Mrs. Umar to the forthcoming award presentation ceremony, which is scheduled to hold at a later date.
Responding, Mrs. Umar expressed appreciation to Blueprint Newspapers for the honour and the confidence reposed in her leadership.
The NEMA Director General dedicated the nomination to the management and staff of the agency, as well as its partners and stakeholders, acknowledging their continued support and commitment to effective disaster management and humanitarian service delivery across Nigeria.
She emphasized that the recognition would further motivate the agency to strengthen its efforts in enhancing disaster preparedness, emergency response, and humanitarian assistance for affected communities nationwide.
