Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have neutralized three suspected kidnappers and recovered three locally fabricated guns during an intelligence-led operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation, conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2026, by troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear), also led to the rescue of an abducted victim identified as Prince Michael Akao, following a tip-off on kidnapping activities in the area.
During the search operation, the troops neutralized the three suspected kidnappers and recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other items suspected to be linked to their criminal activities.
The rescued victim was promptly evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.
The recovered weapons and other items have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the neutralized suspects are in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminal elements safe havens and prevent the use of forested areas as hideouts for criminal activities.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen security, protect lives and safeguard communities against kidnapping and other criminal threats.
