A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Abdulrahman Haske, has identified purposeful leadership and intra-party stability as critical pillars for sustaining democracy and driving socio-economic development in Nigeria.
Haske made the assertion on the sidelines of the APC North-East Zonal Congress held in Gombe on Wednesday, where party leaders and stakeholders converged to deliberate on the party’s future in the region.
According to a statement by his Publicity Secretary, Abdulgaffar Ahmed, Haske noted that the relative stability within the APC has positioned it as a party that has institutionalised progressive governance across local, state, and national levels. He attributed this to the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the driving force behind the party’s cohesion and strategic direction.
The congress, hosted by the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, attracted prominent figures within the APC, including Governor Mai Mala Buni, Governor Agbu Kefas, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur. Also present were the APC Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, and the immediate past North-East Vice Chairman, Mustapha Salihu, among other stakeholders.
At the congress, Barrister Idris Shaibu Gella emerged as the new APC National Vice Chairman for the North-East, a development Haske described as a reflection of the party’s internal democracy and commitment to inclusive leadership.
Addressing delegates, Haske described the congress as a defining moment for the APC in the region, stressing that it underscores the party’s unity and readiness to consolidate its political strength ahead of future elections.
“This Congress is not merely a procedural gathering; it is a powerful affirmation of our collective resolve as a party. It demonstrates that the APC remains united, focused, and prepared to deepen democratic values while advancing the development agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He further commended the peaceful conduct of party activities across all levels, noting that it reflects deliberate efforts by the leadership to foster stability and inclusiveness. He also expressed appreciation to the President, the APC national leadership, and delegates for creating an enabling environment where emerging leaders and fresh ideas can thrive.
The event witnessed a strong show of grassroots mobilisation in support of Haske, as supporters thronged the venue with banners, placards, and chants such as “Haske Maganin Duhu” and “Haske Is Okay,” signaling growing momentum behind his political aspiration ahead of the Adamawa governorship race.
Political observers noted that the enthusiastic reception further positions Haske as a key figure in the unfolding dynamics of Adamawa politics.
He, however, called on party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters nationwide to close ranks and rally behind the APC as preparations intensify for the party’s National Convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, which he described as a critical platform for strengthening unity and shaping the party’s strategic direction.
