The Nigerian Economic Growth Forum (NEGF)-Initiatives Concepts has commended the National Public Relations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for strengthening the Service’s public communication, stakeholder engagement and image under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

The commendation was made when a delegation of the Forum, led by its Founder/Convener, Adisa Y. Olamilekan, paid a courtesy visit to the NCS National Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

Olamilekan, who praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for what he described as “the right choice” in appointing Adeniyi as Comptroller-General of Customs, said the leadership of the NCS had brought greater professionalism, innovation and accountability to the Service.

He particularly commended Deputy Comptroller A.A. Maiwada, Head of the NCS National Public Relations Unit, for what he described as significant improvements in media relations, public engagement and transparency since assuming leadership of the unit.

“Since DC Maiwada took charge of the PR Unit, we have seen a Customs Service that is more open, responsive, and proactive in communicating its policies. This is a major boost to trade facilitation and national economic growth,” Olamilekan said.

He said effective communication remained critical to good governance, noting that the Customs PR Unit had helped bridge the communication gap between the Service and key stakeholders, including the business community, media and the general public.

According to him, improved public enlightenment and transparent communication would contribute to greater understanding of Customs policies and enhance confidence in the operations of the Service.

Responding, Maiwada thanked the NEGF delegation for the visit and recognition of the efforts of the Public Relations Unit.

He attributed the achievements recorded by the unit to the support and direction of Adeniyi and the entire management of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Maiwada assured that the unit would continue to prioritise accurate information dissemination, stakeholder engagement and effective communication of the reforms being implemented by the Service in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The visit ended with an exchange of goodwill, with both organisations expressing commitment to strengthening collaboration on economic advocacy, public enlightenment and initiatives aimed at supporting national economic growth.
