President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the Yuletide free train service till Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Tinubu said this is meant to allow more Nigerians who are yet to return to their stations following the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“The free train service has been extended to the 7th of January 2024,” the Nigerian Railway Corporation wrote on X.

Spokesperson of the NRC, Damilola Kalejaye also advised passengers on how to enjoy the extension.

“On the extension of free train rides to 7th, please come to the station with your Valid ID against the name on the ticket booked,” Kalejaye said.

“Stay away from ticket racketeering as any passenger caught with fake or without tickets will face the consequences. Don’t pay anyone.”

The Federal Government prior to the Christmas and New Year festivities announced a free train service on all serviced routes and 50% rebate on road transportation from December 21, 2023 to January 4th, 2024 on specific routes.

The government said this was meant to reduce the burden of high cost of public transportation during the just concluded Christmas and new year holidays.

“The public is advised to note that this extension applies to all three routes currently being serviced by the Nigerian Railway Corporation as follows: Lagos – Ibadan; Warri -Itakpe and Abuja – Kaduna,” NRC stated.

“It is hoped that Nigerians who are interested in travelling by rail will take full advantage of this unique opportunity aimed at enhancing people’s welfare.”
