The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a legal victory over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a Federal High Court judgment recognising the party’s modified digital two-finger victory logo as its official symbol.

According to an official statement issued by the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the judgment was delivered by Hon. Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in a suit filed by the party over the use of its modified logo.

The party said its First National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on March 25, 2026, approved the modified logo and forwarded it to INEC for recognition and use.

According to the NDC, INEC initially uploaded the new logo but subsequently removed it and reinstated the old association logo with which the party was originally registered.

The party said it gave INEC sufficient time to resolve the matter administratively but was compelled to seek judicial intervention after the commission failed to correct what it described as the error.

In the judgment, Justice Abdulmalik ordered INEC, its servants, agents and officers to forthwith approve the NDC’s modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for use as the party’s official logo for all purposes, including elections conducted by INEC in Nigeria.

The approved design, according to the court order, is a digitally designed “two-finger victory sign” on a blue background, with the inscription “NDC” written in red on top.

The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the digitally designed two-finger victory sign.

Reacting to the judgment, the NDC thanked the judiciary for what it described as a timely intervention, particularly the directive compelling INEC to recognise and utilise the party’s modified logo.

The party has consequently directed all its candidates and members to use only the approved NDC logo on campaign materials and paraphernalia, including banners, posters and other publicity items.

The NDC acknowledged that some candidates and members may have already produced campaign materials bearing the old logo, expressing regret over any inconvenience caused.

It assured its supporters and candidates that there was nothing to worry about, while promising to intensify public sensitisation on the party’s official logo.
