Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have dealt a blow to suspected bandits in Plateau State, foiling an ambush during a follow-up operation in Langtang North Local Government Area and recovering an AK-47 rifle.
The troops launched the operation after arresting and interrogating a suspected bandit, who provided intelligence on the location of a weapon allegedly hidden in Nwur Village.
Acting on the information, the troops escorted the suspect to the village to recover the weapon. However, as they approached the suspected hideout, members of the criminal syndicate reportedly launched an attack on the troops.
The troops responded with overwhelming firepower, neutralising one of the attackers in the ensuing firefight. The arrested suspect was also killed during the encounter.
Following the engagement, troops exploited the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The troops have continued exploitation operations within the area as part of efforts to track down and neutralise other members of the bandit syndicate.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety of law-abiding residents across Plateau State.
