Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Police Force, have thwarted an attack by suspected armed herders on Azege Village, Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to an official statement signed by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, the troops responded to a distress call on 10 August 2026 reporting an attack on the community.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the suspected attackers in a gunfight upon arrival. The assailants, according to the statement, were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security forces and fled in disarray.
In the course of pursuing the fleeing attackers, the troops discovered one suspected armed herder neutralised during the encounter.
The operation also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one Nokia mobile phone.
The recovered items have been secured, while the remains of the neutralised assailant were evacuated by the Police.
The Joint Task Force said efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend other members of the group who fled the scene.
It commended the troops for their tactical resilience and praised the Nigerian Police Force for its effective cooperation during the operation.
The security formation urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities within their communities to security agencies.
