The Borno State Police Command has arrested 65 suspects and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs during a series of coordinated raids across Maiduguri metropolis as part of efforts to combat crime and anti-social activities in the state.
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Borno State Command, ASP Nahum Daso, the operation was carried out on July 9 and 10, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Anti-Social Vices Unit.
The statement explained that the operation followed the nationwide directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, ordering intensified action against crime and criminality across the country. In line with the directive, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, tasked the RRS Anti-Social Vices Unit with sustaining aggressive enforcement operations.
The raids resulted in the arrest of 65 suspects for offences including public nuisance, possession and consumption of illicit drugs, and other related anti-social activities.
Police recovered 460 wraps of cannabis (Indian hemp), 395 tablets of D5, 100 tablets of Exzol, two Tramadol capsules, one shisha pot, two ice bunkers, and two packs of other suspected illicit substances during the operations.
ASP Daso said the suspects and recovered exhibits remain in police custody while investigations continue. He added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, CP Naziru Abdulmajid reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain efforts aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
The Commissioner also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to strengthen the fight against crime and criminality in Borno State.
