The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral TikTok video that raised concerns over a residential building in Ibuaje Community, following preliminary findings that no suspicious activity was discovered at the property.
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command’s attention was drawn to videos posted on TikTok by a user identified as Mrs. Ajibola Yetunde Aramide, who claimed she had not seen the owner of a building located on Oluwatosin Alabi Street, Odofin Estate, Ibuaje Community, for a long time.
The statement explained that Mrs. Aramide, while recording the premises, claimed she was prompted by the Holy Spirit to check on the occupant and later made another video alleging that some residents who built houses in the Abere-Sise area had also not been seen for an extended period. She subsequently called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, and the Commissioner of Police to investigate the matter.
In response, the Police immediately launched an investigation, traced the building, and identified its occupants, who were found to be the owner’s wife and a tenant.
The Command also invited the Chairman and Secretary of the Abere-Sise Community, as well as a representative of the traditional ruler (Kabiyesi), all of whom confirmed that Mrs. Ajibola Yetunde Aramide and her husband reside within the community and that no such incident had occurred in the area.
Police said preliminary investigations further established that Mrs. Aramide resides in Abere-Sise Community, while the building featured in the video is located in Ibuaje.
According to the statement, Mrs. Aramide later acknowledged the implications of posting the videos, which the Police said contravened the right to privacy and provisions of the Cybercrime Act. She subsequently deleted the videos from her social media account and publicly apologised to the owner of the property and the general public.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents of Osun State to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring them that the Command has commenced a full investigation into the matter.
The Police also appealed to residents of Ibuaje Community and surrounding areas who may have useful information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
