The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), IGP Olatunji Disu, has called for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to strengthen criminal justice administration, improve investigations and enhance the timely dispensation of justice across the country.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the IGP made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
During the visit, IGP Disu commended the leadership of the Judiciary for its commitment to judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the administration of justice, describing the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
He stressed the need for sustained institutional collaboration to improve the quality of criminal investigations, strengthen prosecution support and promote the efficient and timely dispensation of justice.
The Inspector-General also underscored the importance of the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws, noting that their full implementation would enhance efficiency and reduce delays in criminal proceedings.
Highlighting ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, IGP Disu said the Force is investing significantly in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation capabilities and other modern policing initiatives aimed at improving law enforcement and criminal justice outcomes.
He added that deeper collaboration with the Judiciary, particularly in the areas of technology adoption and capacity-building programmes, would further strengthen the administration of criminal justice in the country.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the Judiciary and other critical stakeholders to uphold the rule of law, boost public confidence in the justice system and promote a safer, more secure and just society.
