Security forces comprising troops of the 82 Division Garrison, operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have uncovered a major arms cache linked to suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the operation was carried out under Operation EASTERN SANITY II as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the South-East region.

The statement disclosed that on June 9, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects conducted a follow-up operation in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where a concealed arms hideout was discovered inside a structure disguised as a piggery.

A detailed search of the location led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns, an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The recovered weapons and arrested suspects have since been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

The statement described the operation as intelligence-driven and a reflection of strengthened inter-agency collaboration aimed at disrupting criminal networks and enhancing public safety in the South-East.

It further noted that Operation UDO KA remains committed to sustained offensive operations against armed groups and other elements threatening peace and national unity in the region.

Security authorities also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and ensure lasting peace in the area.
