The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has paid a condolence visit to the family of his former Deputy Governor, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, following the tragic killing of the late HRH Eze Francis Igwe at his palace in Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to a statement by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, Umahi’s visit was marked by expressions of sympathy and solidarity, as he condemned the brutal act while offering words of comfort to the bereaved family.

Addressing the family and community leaders, Umahi described the killing as “deeply disturbing” and lamented the cruelty behind the act. “When I heard of this unfortunate occurrence, for me it was like a dream, a very, very deep dream… The people that did this thing are not human beings,” he said. He added that the incident reflects troubling times, noting the inhumanity involved in premeditated violence.

Umahi recalled the late monarch’s pivotal role in promoting unity and stability in Ebonyi State during his time in office. “He was a father to all of us. We worked very well with him, receiving advice, guidance, and wisdom that ensured peace and cohesion in the state,” the Minister said.

Praying for divine justice, Umahi urged the family to remain steadfast in faith and assured them of support. “I want you to be assured that I am a member of your family and you have my shoulder to lean on in all things… Please, be consoled,” he said. He also commended the Governor of Ebonyi State for his swift response and commitment to addressing the tragedy.

On behalf of the family, Barr. Kelechi Igwe expressed deep gratitude to the Minister for standing with them during the period of mourning. “We are grateful to you, and from the reservoir of our hearts we say that the storms you have weathered in life have taught us to be strong, and we are strong,” he stated.

The Minister was accompanied by members of the DUN Foundation, who joined in offering prayers and solidarity, highlighting a collective effort to support the family and community during this period of grief.
