The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international collaboration on border security and migration governance, as it deepens strategic cooperation with the Government of the Netherlands to promote safer and more structured migration systems.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated this while receiving the Deputy Director-General of the Netherlands Ministry of Asylum and Migration, Mr Victor Cramer, alongside the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Nigeria and their delegation during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Interior, Mary Ali, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, migration management, and border security frameworks between both countries.

Speaking during the engagement, Tunji-Ojo underscored the importance the Federal Government attaches to sustainable international partnerships and collaborative solutions.

“Just as we value economic stability, we equally value strong partnerships. We see our collaborators not merely as partners, but as strategic allies with whom we can build long-term solutions,” the minister said.

He explained that the government was committed to developing robust border control mechanisms to safeguard national security while ensuring humane and efficient migration management.

The minister noted that continuous stakeholder engagement and collaboration with international partners remained essential to improving migration governance, enhancing regional stability, and delivering better outcomes for affected populations.

In his remarks, Victor Cramer commended Nigeria’s consistency and professionalism in migration and border management cooperation, describing the relationship as a model of effective international collaboration.

“We do not take this cooperation for granted. Our collaboration with Nigeria has been marked by professionalism, trust, and mutual respect. The level of coordination with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other institutions has been exemplary,” he said.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen border security, protect citizens, and sustain productive partnerships with global stakeholders in building effective and forward-looking migration systems.

The meeting marks another step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to enhance border governance and reinforce bilateral relations with key international partners amid evolving migration and security challenges.
