In a landmark stride toward women’s economic empowerment, over 250,000 Nigerian women have registered for the newly launched EmpowerHER Financial Literacy Programme, a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs designed to enhance financial, digital, and entrepreneurial capacity among women across the country.
The initiative, championed by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, represents a major pillar of the Federal Government’s inclusive development drive under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Implemented in partnership with Kudimata Nigeria Limited, a leading financial literacy and empowerment organization, the programme provides a comprehensive digital and community-based framework for training women in financial management, entrepreneurship, and digital skills. Kudimata is responsible for developing the programme’s technical content, delivery infrastructure, and online learning systems through its Happy Woman Platform.
Speaking during the official launch in Abuja, Hon. Sulaiman-Ibrahim described EmpowerHER as a transformative initiative that places financial knowledge at the heart of sustainable empowerment. She emphasized that true empowerment begins with understanding and that financial literacy is the foundation for women to control their resources, seize opportunities, and shape their futures.
“With EmpowerHER, we are laying the foundation for a financially literate and economically empowered generation of Nigerian women, one that will strengthen families, communities, and our nation,” she stated.
The Minister further announced that financial and digital literacy will henceforth serve as the first layer of every empowerment initiative undertaken by the Ministry. She said this approach would ensure sustainability, transparency, and measurable impact in alignment with the Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions 774 of the Federal Government.
According to her, the programme aims to reach 10 million Nigerian women by 2030, equipping them with the tools to build wealth, scale businesses, and participate meaningfully in national development.
On her part, Kathleen Erhimu, Chief Executive Officer of Kudimata Nigeria Limited, described the partnership as “more than a project, it is a national movement to transform women’s financial futures.” She explained that EmpowerHER will reach women from all walks of life, whether “behind a desk, in a market, on a farm, or leading an enterprise” giving them the confidence and access needed to grow wealth, create value, and drive change in their communities.
Through the Happy Woman Platform, participants will gain access to Nigeria’s most comprehensive empowerment ecosystem, encompassing financial and digital literacy, entrepreneurship development, access to finance, mentorship, peer learning, and linkages to wider opportunity networks.
Reaffirming her commitment to sustainable empowerment, Hon. Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that EmpowerHER embodies the Ministry’s vision of equipping every Nigerian woman “from the classroom to the marketplace, from the civil service to entrepreneurship” to move from survival to success.
“As a nation, we are building a generation of women who are informed, equipped, and unstoppable,” the Minister declared.
The EmpowerHER Financial Literacy Programme marks one of the most ambitious nationwide women’s empowerment initiatives in Nigeria’s history, positioning financial knowledge and digital inclusion as key drivers of women’s transformation and national growth.
