The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security operations in Plateau State following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that claimed the lives of several residents.

Condemning the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordered the immediate deployment of additional security assets to restore calm, strengthen security operations and ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police chief described the attack as tragic and unacceptable, while expressing condolences to the government and people of the state, particularly the families of the victims and residents of the affected community.

The statement said the IGP has already taken decisive steps to stabilise the situation by deploying the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Shehu Nadada, to the state to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the security situation and coordinate ongoing operations.

According to the police authorities, the deployment is aimed at strengthening existing security arrangements and ensuring effective collaboration among security agencies operating in the state.

The Inspector-General of Police has also directed the reinforcement of the area with additional tactical units, including personnel from the Police Mobile Force and intelligence operatives, to support ongoing operations and prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

The statement noted that the intensified security operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored across the affected communities.

IGP Disu further instructed all operational commanders in the state to ensure enhanced visibility policing and proactive engagement with vulnerable communities as part of efforts to reassure residents and prevent further violence.

While calling for calm, the police chief urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

He also cautioned citizens against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that maintaining peace and security requires collective responsibility.

Members of the public were advised to promptly report suspicious movements or incidents to relevant authorities in order to support the ongoing security response aimed at restoring lasting peace in Plateau State.
