Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers and recovering equipment allegedly used for illicit petroleum operations.

According to an official statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the operation was carried out by troops of the 65 Battalion under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following credible intelligence on illegal bunkering activities in the area.

The statement said the intelligence-led raid resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for illegal bunkering.

It added that the suspects and all recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and other necessary legal action.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, commended the troops for the successful operation and urged them to sustain the offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

The statement further added that the latest operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts, in collaboration with other security agencies, to combat illegal oil bunkering and protect critical national assets from economic sabotage.
