Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and 22 other civilians after foiling multiple kidnap attempts by suspected terrorists in Zamfara State.

According to an official statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the operations were carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, following separate distress calls from communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The statement disclosed that terrorists stormed the residence of the Rector on Tsohon-Tasha Street, where they killed his private security guard and injured another resident before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his family.

However, troops responding to the emergency call arrived swiftly and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the abduction and flee the area. The Rector and his family were rescued unharmed.

In a separate operation later the same day, troops on night patrol responded to reports of an ongoing kidnap attempt in Tungan Dorawa community, Barkeji Village. Although difficult terrain initially slowed their movement, the soldiers pursued the fleeing terrorists, engaged them, and successfully foiled the abduction.

The statement added that troops simultaneously confronted another group of terrorists in the same community who had attempted to kidnap a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria. The swift military response forced the attackers to flee, leading to the rescue of the businessman and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring houses.

Meanwhile, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers. He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, while commending the vigilance, courage, and professionalism displayed by the troops during the successful operations.
