The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with relevant government agencies and stakeholders, has received the second batch of Nigerian returnees evacuated from the Republic of South Africa as part of ongoing voluntary repatriation efforts.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m. aboard South African Airways flight SA60.
The reception exercise was coordinated by NEMA alongside the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Upon arrival, the returnees, comprising men, women and children, underwent profiling, documentation and medical screening to facilitate their reintegration and ensure their wellbeing.
NEMA also provided logistical support for the onward transportation of the returnees to their respective states of origin, while security personnel were deployed to ensure the safe movement of the buses conveying them.
The Head of NEMA Lagos Operations Office, Mr. Tunde Mohammed, led the agency’s reception team during the arrival and processing of the returnees.
The latest evacuation forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to assist affected Nigerians abroad and facilitate their safe and orderly return to the country through coordinated inter-agency support and humanitarian assistance.
