The Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Police Force Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has emphasised the importance of community policing as a critical strategy for strengthening national security and sustaining peace across the country.
CP Shetima made the remarks while hosting members of the Administrative and Academic Staff, alongside Student Officers of Senior Course 48 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College during a study tour to Nasarawa State themed, “Promoting Community Engagement for Enhanced National Security.”
According to an official signed statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Commissioner of Police underscored the need for security agencies to build stronger partnerships with communities in order to effectively tackle crime and other security challenges.
The statement noted that CP Shetima charged the visiting officers to embrace and apply the principles of community policing in the discharge of their duties, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility requiring collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public.
He stated that when security agencies work closely with community members, crime is significantly reduced, public trust in security institutions is strengthened, and peaceful coexistence is sustained.
The Commissioner further highlighted the role of intelligence sharing, public cooperation, and grassroots engagement in enhancing security operations and promoting stability within society.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, the Team Leader, Brigadier General T. J. Makintosh, commended the Commissioner of Police for the warm reception accorded the team and described the lecture delivered during the visit as highly insightful and impactful.
Brigadier General Makintosh particularly praised the lecture titled, “The Imperative of Community Policing: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects for National Security,” noting that the engagement provided valuable perspectives on contemporary security management and civil-security relations.
He assured the Commissioner that the knowledge and lessons gained during the study tour would be effectively applied in their respective areas of responsibility in furtherance of national security objectives.
