The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has lauded nurses of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for their dedication, professionalism, and invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery, describing them as lifesavers and indispensable pillars in sustaining the operational effectiveness of the Service.
The CAS gave the commendation during the 2026 International Nurses’ Week celebration held on 7 May 2026 at the Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences.
Represented by the Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine, Air Commodore AJ Arumona, Air Marshal Aneke noted that beyond their clinical expertise, NAF nurses have consistently demonstrated compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment in both peace and conflict situations, thereby strengthening military healthcare support systems across the country.
He emphasized that nurses remain central to maintaining the health, readiness, and combat effectiveness of personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, adding that their sacrifices and dedication continue to impact positively on the Service’s operational capabilities.
Speaking on the theme of the 2026 celebration, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” the CAS reaffirmed the commitment of the NAF leadership to improving healthcare delivery through continuous training, capacity development, and institutional support for nursing personnel.
According to him, empowering nurses through quality education, professional development, and conducive working environments is essential to achieving effective healthcare delivery and mission success within the Armed Forces.
Air Marshal Aneke further stressed that sustained investment in nursing personnel represents a strategic investment in the future of healthcare delivery, not only within the military but across the nation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant of the Nigerian Air Force College of Nursing Sciences, Wing Commander VA Dung, commended nurses and student nurses for their dedication to the noble profession, describing them as pillars of strength within the healthcare system.
He urged them to uphold the highest ethical standards, embrace innovation, and remain steadfast in the pursuit of professional excellence.
The event featured lectures and interactive engagements centred on leadership, resilience, professional growth, and the evolving role of nurses in modern healthcare delivery, underscoring the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to building a highly skilled and motivated medical workforce.
