The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining collaboration with key stakeholders, particularly the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), to promote responsible communication, deepen public awareness, and ensure the continued resilience and sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

According to an official statement signed by the NCC Director of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, made the commitment while receiving a delegation of the NIPR, led by its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

Dr. Maida said the Commission would continue to partner with relevant professional bodies, including the NIPR, to strengthen stakeholder engagement and improve public understanding of issues affecting the telecommunications sector.

The NCC boss congratulated the NIPR on securing the hosting rights for the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, describing the achievement as a demonstration of strategic communication and resilience.

“It tells a compelling story of perseverance, strategic communication, and the importance of owning the narrative. It also reflects our ability to convincingly demonstrate to the Global Alliance and other stakeholders why Nigeria deserves the chance to host the forum,” he said.

Dr. Maida also highlighted the forthcoming African Telecoms Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries, scheduled to be hosted by Nigeria in July 2026, urging the NIPR to leverage the international event to further enhance Nigeria’s image and reputation on the global stage.

On the Commission’s ongoing regulatory initiatives, the EVC disclosed that the NCC is intensifying public education, sensitisation and awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening accountability and promoting stability within the telecommunications sector.

He listed key initiatives to include the protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), promotion of efficient data usage, implementation of simplified tariff directives for mobile network operators, development of a public coverage map, and measures designed to foster healthy competition across the industry.

Dr. Maida noted that recent reforms and difficult policy decisions taken by the Commission have begun to yield positive outcomes, particularly in restoring investor confidence and attracting increased investments into the sector.

“Through the efforts that we have been making to stabilize the sector, we have been able to restore investor confidence. The level of investment we are seeing now is not about keeping the lights on; it is about growing the industry and this is something we have not seen for years before my time. It is a sign of investors saying we have confidence in the sector, in the reforms of the government, in the regulator and we believe there is opportunity in this market,” he stated.

In his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, commended the NCC for its commitment to collaboration and inclusive stakeholder engagement, describing the Commission as a key driver of Nigeria’s digital economy.

He reaffirmed the Institute’s readiness to partner with the Commission on initiatives aimed at promoting responsible communication, reputation management, and increased public awareness of the Commission’s regulatory programmes.
