The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting the country’s positive image by celebrating its achievements and serving as worthy ambassadors wherever they reside.

According to an official statement signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa made the call during a visit to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom—Councillor Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Councillor Rosaline Oguro, the Mayor of Islington.

The statement noted that Councillor Adegoke made history as the first person from an ethnic minority background to serve as Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council since the council was established in 1889.

Dabiri-Erewa described Adegoke’s election as another testament to the excellence, resilience and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora, noting that his achievement reflects the immense contributions Nigerians continue to make across the world.

While receiving the NiDCOM Chairman in her office, Mayor Rosaline Oguro expressed appreciation for the visit and encouraged Nigerians living abroad to continue portraying the country positively through exemplary conduct and service.

The NiDCOM Chairman also celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of two exceptional Nigerian medical graduates. She commended Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.90 out of 5.00, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.

Dabiri-Erewa described their remarkable accomplishments as evidence of the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, adding that such achievements continue to enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.

She congratulated all four Nigerians for making the nation proud and encouraged other Nigerians in the diaspora to pursue excellence while remaining worthy representatives of the country.

Dabiri-Erewa stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately celebrate the country’s success stories and highlight the positive contributions of its citizens across the globe.

She further noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has embarked on far-reaching reforms and critical infrastructure development initiatives aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

The NiDCOM Chairman also urged Nigerians in the diaspora to continue supporting national development by contributing their expertise, investments, skills and global networks to the country’s progress.

She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to identifying, engaging and celebrating outstanding Nigerians abroad whose achievements continue to strengthen Nigeria’s image and standing in the international community.
