By Nkechi Eze

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and ex-Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday made a high-profile appearance at the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where they held a closed-door consultative meeting with the party’s leadership.

The two political heavyweights arrived under tight security, with access to the venue significantly restricted as deliberations commenced, signaling the sensitivity and strategic weight of the engagement.

At the heart of the meeting was a direct interface with the NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside other senior stakeholders of the party. Observations at the scene indicate that the session was structured as an interactive dialogue, focused on ongoing political consultations, particularly around the possibility of both leaders aligning with the NDC.

Although no formal declaration was made at the time of filing this report, the development has intensified political speculation, with insiders suggesting that the talks form part of a broader realignment effort ahead of future electoral contests.

Sources familiar with the meeting described it as exploratory but significant, noting that the presence of both Obi and Kwankwaso in a single high-level engagement with the NDC leadership underscores a potential shift in the evolving political calculus.

The closed-door nature of the discussions further highlights the importance attached to the meeting, as all parties involved appear to be weighing strategic options that could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.

As anticipation builds, attention now turns to possible outcomes of the consultations, which may redefine alliances and reshape the contours of opposition politics in the country.
