President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the membership of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

According to a statement made available by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser Media and publicity, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the development was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

The statement disclosed that Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

It further stated that Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending further developments.

The memo directed that all handover processes be concluded on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the decision was aimed at strengthening cohesion within the cabinet, enhancing synergy in governance, and improving service delivery, particularly in driving economic outcomes under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the changes in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

The statement noted that President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours, while also assuring that efforts to reinvigorate governance would remain an ongoing process.
