The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has inaugurated and inducted newly appointed members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), reaffirming its commitment to institutional integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct across the organisation.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, described the exercise as a significant milestone in strengthening internal safeguards against corruption and unethical practices within the agency.

He said the initiative aligns with NiMet’s newly unveiled 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which is anchored on the core values of Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence (I-PACE), noting that the framework is designed to deepen institutional reforms and improve service delivery.

According to him, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) remains a critical internal mechanism for preventing corruption and promoting accountability among staff. He further disclosed that the unit has been expanded from five to eight members to enhance inclusiveness, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.

Prof. Anosike stressed that the fight against corruption cannot be left to a select few, but must be embraced collectively by all staff members, urging personnel to uphold ethical standards in the discharge of their duties as a fundamental aspect of the agency’s culture.

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, who was represented by Mr. Olusegun Adigun, commended NiMet’s management for its commitment to strengthening ACTU operations within the agency.

He also called for deeper collaboration between NiMet and the ICPC, noting that such partnership would further enhance transparency, credibility, and accountability in public service delivery.

Concluding the ceremony, Prof. Anosike charged the newly inducted ACTU members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, professionalism, and uncompromising integrity, assuring them of management’s full support.

He reiterated NiMet’s unwavering commitment to transparency and national development, describing the inauguration as a renewed step toward building a more accountable and ethically driven institution.
