The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that its Public Alert No. 042/2026 concerning alleged whitish particulate matter in a batch of Deleject Disposable Needles was published on its website in error.

According to an official statement signed by the Director, Post Marketing Surveillance, NAFDAC, Mr. Bitrus Fraden, the complaint that triggered the alert involved Deleject Disposable Needle Batch No. 240605 and was lodged by Pharm. Jiyah Dadi, whose pharmacy is located at No. 1, Aliyu Turaki, Off Isa Kaita Road, Malali, Kaduna.

The agency said the complainant had purchased the affected syringes from Zagbayi Pharmacy, Calabar Road, Off Kano Road, Kaduna.

NAFDAC explained that its subsequent investigation of the manufacturing company, HMA, did not reveal any non-conformity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

According to the agency, the reported issue may therefore have resulted from a supply-chain challenge rather than a manufacturing defect.

NAFDAC further disclosed that the matter had undergone the appropriate regulatory review and investigation and was satisfactorily resolved several months ago.

It said there were currently no quality, safety or regulatory concerns warranting the publication of the alert regarding Deleject Disposable Needle products available on the market.

The agency consequently reassured healthcare providers, patients, distributors and members of the public that Deleject Disposable Needle products currently in distribution are in good and acceptable condition.

“Deleject Disposable Needle products in distribution are in good and acceptable condition,” the agency stated, adding that the products had met applicable quality requirements and regulatory expectations for use.

NAFDAC said its investigations found no evidence indicating any quality or safety risk to healthcare providers, patients, distributors or the general public.

The agency urged stakeholders not to be alarmed by the erroneous publication, stressing that the products remain safe for use.

It also expressed regret over the publication of the alert and advised the public to disregard it.

The clarification is expected to prevent further concern among healthcare providers, distributors and members of the public who may have been affected by the earlier alert.
