The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another operational breakthrough with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform in Ekiti State.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the development underscores the Corps’ growing technological capacity in combating automobile-related crimes and strengthening the integrity of vehicle documentation across the country.
According to the statement, the breakthrough occurred on March 23, 2026, during routine manual uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
The discovery was made after details submitted by a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area raised suspicion when the chassis number provided did not conform to the standard manufacturer’s sequence for a Toyota Camry 2006 model.
Acting on professional intuition and technical expertise, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the anomaly and conducted a fresh search through the NVIS database. The revised chassis number produced a valid match linked to a vehicle that had been reported stolen two years earlier.
Following the discovery, the Corps contacted the original owner, who confirmed that the vehicle had indeed been stolen, prompting the initiation of a coordinated recovery operation.
After the State Licensing Officer and the Sector Commander were briefed on the development, strategic efforts were made to invite the suspect for verification. However, when the suspect failed to honour the invitation, the Corps escalated the matter to the Nigeria Police Force for further action.
Acting on credible intelligence, police officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin eventually recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.
The FRSC said the recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and highlights the vital role of the NVIS database in safeguarding vehicle ownership records nationwide.
The Corps reiterated its determination to clamp down on all forms of vehicle-related fraud and advised members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details before purchasing or registering vehicles.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety, strengthening national security and protecting lawful citizens through intelligence-driven operations and strategic enforcement mechanisms.
