The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to prioritising the welfare, health and overall well-being of its personnel as part of efforts to enhance productivity and institutional effectiveness.

According to an official statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede gave the assurance on Tuesday at the EFCC International Men’s Day Wellness Seminar organised by the Commission’s Staff Welfare Services in Abuja.

The seminar, themed “Promoting Men’s Physical, Mental, and Emotional Well-being for Enhanced Productivity,” brought together male officers of the Commission for discussions on physical health, mental wellness and work-life balance.

Represented by the Secretary to the Commission, Muhammad Hammajoda, the EFCC Chairman said staff welfare remained a priority of the Commission’s leadership, noting that the wellness seminar formed part of broader initiatives designed to improve the well-being and productivity of officers.

He said the Commission would continue to support programmes that promote the physical and mental health of its workforce through its Staff Welfare Services Department.

Speaking during the seminar, clinical psychologist and family therapist, Jeph Oluwagbemiga, urged participants to maintain a healthy balance between their careers, family responsibilities and personal well-being, stressing that such balance is essential for improved productivity, good health and stable family life.

Also speaking, mental health specialist, Dr. Bukola Williams, encouraged officers to embrace preventive healthcare through regular medical check-ups, healthy eating habits, routine physical exercise and the avoidance of alcohol and smoking, noting that many health conditions affecting men are preventable.

In another presentation, licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Muhsin Jega, called on men to break the culture of silence surrounding emotional and mental health challenges by seeking support from family members, friends, colleagues, religious leaders and trusted confidants whenever necessary.

Earlier, the Acting Director of Staff Welfare Services, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Felicia Bot-Timothy, said the seminar was organised to address the unique health challenges faced by male officers and encourage healthier lifestyles within the Commission.

She observed that many men often delay seeking medical attention and are less likely to undergo routine health screenings despite facing specific health risks.

Bot-Timothy commended Olukoyede for placing staff welfare at the centre of the Commission’s policies, citing initiatives such as regular medical check-ups, compulsory monthly physical exercise for staff and management, and the establishment of a standard in-house gymnasium.

She said the initiatives were aimed at building a healthier and more productive workforce while reducing the incidence of health-related absences from duty.

The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and the cutting of the EFCC International Men’s Day Wellness cake.
