The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a two-day step-down workshop aimed at strengthening the integration of human security considerations into its operational framework as part of efforts to enhance people-centered security across the country.

The workshop, held at the Dr. Ade Abolurin Auditorium at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, brought together officers and personnel of the Corps for capacity-building sessions focused on incorporating human security principles into operational planning and field engagements.

According to a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, the initiative aligns with the vision of the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to build a disciplined, intelligence-driven and people-focused security institution capable of addressing evolving security challenges.

The workshop was formally declared open on behalf of the Commandant General by the Acting Deputy Commandant General in charge of Training and Manpower Development, Mukhtar Lawal.

The training programme is supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Center for Civilians in Conflict as part of a strategic partnership designed to enhance the protection of civilians, particularly children and other vulnerable groups affected by insecurity.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the NSCDC leadership emphasised that integrating human security principles into the Corps’ operations is critical to strengthening community-based security structures and improving the protection of lives and property.

The Corps also noted that the initiative will enhance officers’ capacity to adopt more inclusive and responsive approaches to security management, especially in areas affected by conflict and other security threats.

Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to professional service delivery, the Commandant General stressed that the integration of human security considerations remains a key pillar in repositioning the NSCDC to effectively safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure while fostering stronger relationships with communities across the country.
