The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled a child trafficking attempt in Mararaba, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect and the rescue of three minors.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in an official statement that the incident occurred on September 4, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m. following a distress call received by the Mararaba ‘A’ Division. According to him, the suspect, identified as Aisha Hashiru, was apprehended by members of the public at Orange Market, Mararaba, while attempting to abduct three children. She was about to be lynched by an angry mob when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba ‘A’ Division mobilized his patrol team to the scene and swiftly rescued both the suspect and the children, moving them safely to the station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier that day, at about 5:00 p.m., the suspect had sneaked into the residence of one Ramatu Auwal, a resident of Orange Market, and abducted her three children Fatima Auwal, aged four, Shafiyi Auwal, aged five, and Amina Auwal, aged six. She was, however, intercepted by vigilant residents while attempting to escape with the minors. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to luring the children under the pretext of buying them biscuits.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for discreet investigation. He also directed that officers intensify efforts in unraveling other reported cases of missing children while strengthening the Command’s fight against human trafficking across the state.
The Command commended the vigilance of residents in foiling the abduction and assured members of the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring the safety of children throughout Nasarawa State.
