The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed social media claims that it denied Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with State Code number LA/24B/8325, a Certificate of National Service (CNS) because of her alleged critical remarks about the government.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC described the allegations as “entirely unfounded and false in their entirety.”
According to the statement, Rita is among 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, her service year was extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, in line with the NYSC Bye-Laws.
Embu explained that the extension is a routine administrative measure, not unique to her case, and is applied equally to all Corps Members found in similar circumstances.
“The principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case,” the NYSC said, stressing that extending service for non-compliance with established rules is a long-standing tradition within the scheme and should not be politicised.
The management urged the public to approach the matter with understanding, reiterating its commitment to carrying out its constitutional mandate.
“Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the statement concluded.
