Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu has joined senior Nigerian government and security officials at the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group meeting in Washington, D.C., as both countries deepen cooperation on counterterrorism and other security challenges.
The Nigerian delegation is being led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, with the high-level engagements focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
The meeting provides an opportunity for both countries to review progress recorded under their existing security partnership, assess emerging threats and identify practical areas for enhanced collaboration in the fight against terrorism and other transnational security threats.
Disu’s participation underscores the strategic role of the Nigeria Police Force in the country’s broader counterterrorism and internal security architecture, particularly as Nigeria continues to strengthen inter-agency and international partnerships to address evolving security challenges.
The discussions in Washington are expected to further deepen intelligence sharing, operational cooperation and capacity-building efforts between Nigerian and US security institutions, while identifying next steps for a more coordinated response to terrorism and related threats.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to strengthen international partnerships and improve the country’s security capabilities through sustained cooperation with strategic global partners.
