The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on Commanding Officers and their equivalents at the tactical level to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, courage, and valour within their units.

He made this call on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the closing ceremony of the Second Commanding Officers Workshop held at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba, Jos. The event brought together tactical-level commanders for intensive engagements aimed at enhancing leadership effectiveness and operational efficiency in the Nigerian Army.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief emphasised that the effective execution of responsibilities at the tactical level is pivotal to the overall success of ongoing military operations across the country. He urged the commanders to remain committed to their roles, as their leadership directly impacts the Army’s ability to meet strategic objectives in various theatres of operation.

General Oluyede also stressed the importance of troop welfare, describing it as a critical component of operational success. “A motivated force is essential for optimal performance,” he stated, urging the officers to pay adequate attention to the well-being of their subordinates.

Speaking on the relevance of the Workshop, the COAS urged participants to apply the insights and knowledge gained during the sessions to strengthen leadership in their respective formations. He noted that such professional engagements are only as valuable as their practical application, particularly in improving operational planning, fostering decisive leadership, and reinforcing the core values of the Nigerian Army.
