Sustained military operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI have continued to yield results in the North-East, with 17 family members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) voluntarily surrendering to troops in separate incidents in Borno State.

According to an official statement signed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the latest surrender reflects the growing impact of ongoing offensive operations targeting terrorist enclaves across the theatre.

The statement said the first group of 16 JAS family members, comprising 10 women and six children, surrendered at about 9:15 a.m. on August 4 to troops of the 222 Battalion while on a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area.

During preliminary debriefing, the group reportedly told troops that the sustained military pressure on terrorist hideouts compelled them to abandon the insurgents’ camp. Troops also recovered ₦92,000 from the group during the surrender process.

In a related development, an 11-year-old JAS family member voluntarily surrendered at about 12:04 p.m. the same day to troops of the 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area. The minor similarly attributed the decision to the continuous operational pressure mounted by troops against terrorist elements in the theatre.

The military said all the surrendered individuals are currently undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing before being transferred to the appropriate authorities for further profiling, rehabilitation where applicable, and other administrative procedures in line with existing guidelines.

Operation HADIN KAI noted that the latest surrender underscores the effectiveness of its ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist enclaves, disrupt insurgents’ logistics and communication networks, and deny them freedom of movement across the North-East.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensive operations against terrorist groups while maintaining operational dominance and facilitating the safe and voluntary surrender of individuals willing to renounce insurgency in accordance with established procedures.
