Seventeen suspected internet fraudsters have been apprehended by operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during coordinated sting operations in parts of Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a statement made available by the Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were rounded up on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, following actionable intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.

According to the statement, the arrests took place in strategic locations including Asa Dam, Al-Hikmah University axis, Gaa-Odota in Ilorin, as well as Ganmo and Amoyo communities in Ifelodun LGA.

Items recovered from the suspects include three luxury vehicles, several high-end mobile phones, and laptop computers believed to have been used in perpetrating cybercrimes.

The statement further recalled that this operation follows a similar raid carried out the previous week, which led to the arrest of 47 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin and Ifelodun.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the Commission noted.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to stamping out cybercrime and warned that its operatives will continue to go after fraud syndicates in line with its mandate to protect the integrity of the financial system.
