The Nasarawa State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the tragic deaths of five children found lifeless inside an abandoned vehicle in Agyaragu community.

The incident was reported on May 4, 2025, by a resident, Ozimna Ogbor, who alerted the Agyaragu Divisional Headquarters about the discovery of the unresponsive children.

The victims, identified as Kamsi Onah (male, 8 years), Somer Onah (male, 6 years), Unice Udouchi (female, 10 years), Nmasoma Nnaji (female, 10 years), and Chioma Nnaji (female, 8 years) were found locked inside a disused vehicle in a compound belonging to one Abu Agyeme, also a resident of Agyaragu.

SP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa state command in an official signed statement disclosed that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, swiftly directed the Divisional Police Officer to respond to the scene. The children were taken to Aro Hospital, where a doctor confirmed their deaths was due to suspected suffocation.

The CP has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending condolences to the bereaved families.

He cautioned parents, guardians, and vehicle owners to be vigilant and ensure children do not access parked or abandoned vehicles without supervision. Due to severe heat burns on the bodies, the remains were released to the parents on request, for burial.
