The Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Team has commenced engagement with the Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) as part of efforts to strengthen media collaboration and promote greater visibility and participation in shooting sports across the country.
The initiative was launched during a courtesy visit to the NSSF headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, by a delegation led by the National Chairman of the Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Team, Paul Joseph.
The delegation included the National Welfare Director, Aishatu Shateema Bukar, and other members of the executive committee, who formally introduced the organisation to the NSSF leadership and discussed areas of potential collaboration.
Receiving the delegation, NSSF President, Commodore Shettima Mohammed Shagir, welcomed the initiative and offered guidance on building a credible and sustainable organisation.
Shettima urged the team’s leadership to maintain proper governance and procurement procedures, while encouraging stronger collaboration with established sporting and media organisations, including the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigeria Institute for Sports (NIS) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said closer cooperation among sporting and media institutions would contribute to a more professional and standardised approach to reporting and promoting shooting sports nationwide.
The engagement followed the inaugural congress of the Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Team held at the Badminton Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where members adopted the organisation’s name through a democratic poll and ratified its pioneer executive committee.
The approved national officers are Paul Joseph, National Chairman; Olayemi Esan, National Vice President; Nkechi Eze, National Secretary; Lawal Ibrahim, National Public Relations Officer; and Aishatu Shateema Bukar, National Welfare Director.
The congress also resolved to commence the process of registering the organisation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to secure legal recognition and establish its formal administrative structure.
Members further affirmed that the organisation would operate as a nationwide body, with journalists from all geopolitical zones expected to participate rather than limiting its activities to Abuja.
The engagement with the NSSF represents an early step in the organisation’s plans to build institutional partnerships and use media collaboration to increase public awareness, coverage and participation in shooting sports across Nigeria.
