The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line in Rivers State.
The affected Towers T50 to T53 were vandalised after their structural members were removed and carted away, with the damage discovered on August 6, 2026, by TCN lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region.
According to a statement by the Management of TCN, the latest incident represents the fifth vandalism attack on the transmission line in recent times.
The company said rehabilitation work was currently ongoing to restore the affected infrastructure and sustain the stability of the transmission network.
TCN expressed concern over the repeated attacks on critical power infrastructure, urging stakeholders and members of the public to work together to curb the menace.
It stressed that continued vandalism of transmission facilities poses a threat to the stability and reliability of the national grid.
The company called for greater vigilance and cooperation from communities and other stakeholders along transmission corridors to protect critical electricity infrastructure and prevent further attacks.
