Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have foiled a terrorist attack and rescued two kidnapped victims during a gun battle with terrorists in Sokoto State.
According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation took place on September 13, 2026, following a distress call over a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
The statement said troops of Sector 2 swiftly responded to the incident and made contact with the terrorists, engaging them with firepower and forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
During the encounter, the troops rescued two kidnapped victims from the terrorists.
The troops subsequently received information indicating that the terrorists were attempting to regroup and swiftly mobilised to the location.
They re-established contact with the terrorists, leading to another fierce gun battle which forced the criminals to withdraw from the area.
During exploitation of the location, the troops recovered 157 rounds of PKT ammunition, phone batteries and other items.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, while reaffirming the resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
The commander also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces in support of ongoing operations.
