China is set to take the helm of the BRICS bloc in 2027 and host the group’s 19th summit, as member states seek to strengthen their collective influence on global affairs and push for reforms in the international order.

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced China’s assumption of the rotating presidency on Saturday while addressing the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.

Xi called on BRICS countries to “stand on the right side of history” and play a more active role in shaping global affairs, urging members to deepen cooperation across key areas of mutual interest.

The Chinese president identified innovative development, peace and stability, mutual learning among civilisations and improved global governance as priority areas for stronger BRICS cooperation.

He also urged member countries to work towards a more just and equitable international order and strengthen cooperation in building what he described as a “community with a shared future for humanity.”

China’s presidency in 2027 is expected to place Beijing at the centre of efforts to advance the bloc’s economic, political and development agenda, coming as BRICS continues to expand cooperation among its growing membership.

The 19th BRICS Summit, to be hosted by China in 2027, is therefore expected to provide another major platform for discussions on global governance, economic cooperation and the bloc’s evolving role in international affairs.
