Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have secured the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State after recovering and safely disposing of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists along the major access route.

The operation was conducted on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2 regarding the presence of an explosive device along the road.

According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops swiftly responded to the report and located the IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road.

Danja said the troops immediately secured the area to prevent the device from causing harm to motorists, commuters and other road users, before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was deployed to safely dispose of the explosive.

Following the successful operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols across the general area to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement and prevent further attempts to disrupt movement along the route.

The development underscores the efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to safeguard critical routes, protect civilian lives and counter the evolving tactics of terrorist elements operating within the Joint Operations Area.

The Joint Task Force also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious objects or activities to security agencies.

It said timely information remains crucial to preventing attacks, protecting lives and strengthening security across communities in the region.
