Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified their offensive operations across the North-West, rescuing a kidnapped victim in Kaduna State and neutralising a terrorist during a separate operation in Sokoto State.
According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted on August 20 and 21, 2026, as troops sustained efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
Danja said troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on August 20 following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He said the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and pursued the terrorists into the surrounding bushes, forcing them to abandon their captive and flee.
The victim was subsequently rescued and reunited with his family.
In a separate operation on August 21, troops of Sector 2, working with local security elements, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to the statement, troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to withdraw in disarray.
During the subsequent pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, one terrorist was neutralised, while troops recovered two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items from the scene.
The Theatre Command said the successful operations reflected the sustained momentum of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in confronting terrorist threats and protecting vulnerable communities across the North-West.
It said the Joint Task Force remained committed to denying terrorists freedom of action and creating a safer environment for residents within its area of responsibility.
“The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in sustaining the tempo of ongoing operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and create a safer environment for communities across the Joint Operations Area,” Danja said.
The Command assured the public that troops would continue to respond decisively to emerging threats and sustain efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements.
