The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Management Team has honoured the Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource and Development, DCG Tijanni Abe, following his retirement after 35 years of meritorious service to the nation.
The retirement ceremony, held on August 19, 2026, at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, brought together senior officers and members of the Service’s Management Team to celebrate Abe’s career and contributions to the organisation.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who led the tributes, described the retiring officer as a man whose career was characterised by integrity, humility, calmness and unwavering commitment to duty.
Adeniyi said Abe was particularly known within the Service for his consistent expression of gratitude, describing the quality as a reflection of his character and values.
“You are a man of integrity and integrity pays. May God increase you in wisdom and happiness, and may your years ahead be even more pleasurable. We are all very proud of you, and we wish you well,” the CGC said.
He added that the relationships and bonds established during Abe’s years in the Service would endure beyond his retirement.
In their separate tributes, senior officers described Abe as a leader who earned respect not merely because of his rank but through his character and relationship with colleagues.
They highlighted his courage, humility, sacrifice and kindness, recalling his role as a mentor whose conduct and professional example positively influenced officers who served alongside him.
For many of his colleagues, Abe’s retirement represented the conclusion of a career that went beyond the discharge of official responsibilities to include mentorship, service and the development of others within the Customs Service.
Responding to the tributes, Abe expressed gratitude to Almighty God for sustaining him throughout his career.
He also thanked the Comptroller-General and members of the Management Team for their support and confidence in his abilities throughout his 35 years in the Nigeria Customs Service.
The retiring Deputy Comptroller-General’s response reflected the humility and appreciation that colleagues identified as defining features of his long career.
With his retirement, the Nigeria Customs Service bids farewell to a senior officer whose three-and-a-half decades of service were marked by professionalism, integrity and commitment to the development of the Service and its personnel.
