The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has called for a strategic alliance between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to strengthen criminal justice administration through specialised training and enhanced professional development for police personnel.

According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Inspector-General made the proposal during a courtesy visit to the National Judicial Institute, where he was received by the Administrator of the Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, alongside the Institute Secretary, Mr. Olumo Abdulazeez, Esq., and members of the Institute’s management team.

Disu said closer collaboration between the Police and the NJI would improve the quality of investigations, prosecutions and overall criminal justice delivery by equipping officers with specialised legal and judicial knowledge.

As part of the proposed partnership, the IGP recommended continuous training programmes for Police lawyers, prosecutors, Investigating Police Officers (IPOs) and other personnel in key areas such as criminal justice administration, electronic evidence, cybercrime, digital forensics, human rights, prosecution advocacy and case management.

He also proposed executive education and professional certification programmes for police personnel, as well as joint seminars, workshops and research initiatives designed to improve investigative standards and prosecutorial effectiveness across the Force.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, noting that stronger collaboration with judicial institutions would contribute significantly to a more efficient and credible criminal justice system.

Responding, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute welcomed the initiative and expressed the Institute’s readiness to work with the Nigeria Police Force in advancing professional development within the justice sector.

Justice Adejumo also commended the Inspector-General for establishing a Police outpost within the Institute and appealed for additional collaboration to further strengthen security at the facility.

The statement said the proposed partnership underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to building strategic institutional relationships that promote professionalism, improve law enforcement capacity and support effective administration of criminal justice in Nigeria.
